Materialise offers new flame retardant rapid prototyping material

29-05-2009 - Materialise have announced that they are offering the opportunity to have parts built in a new thermoplastic, the Ultem 9085.
Branche: Overige industrie

Ultem is a Fused Deposition Modelling material. According to to the press release of Materialise Ultem 9085 is highly functional, lightweight and flame retardant. The material’s strength-to-weight ratio, its FST (flame, smoke and toxicity) and UL 94-VO ratings should set it apart from any other thermoplastic available on additive manufacturing machines. These qualities would make it a suitable solution for a wide range of prototyping and end use applications including electrical components, microwave parts, pump and valve parts and in marine, aerospace and automotive manufacturing.
“As well as providing perfect solutions for specific high-end prototyping requirements, the Utem 9085 is a huge leap forward for the direct additive manufacturing of production grade components. The addition of the Ultem 9085 material to our portfolio will enable us to directly produce small production runs in a highly functional and flame retardant material, while slashing the cost and lead-times of traditional tooling techniques.” says Bart Van der Schueren, Director of Materialise Industrial Services.
